Door casings & jambs · made in our own plant

Flat Casings and Architraves

Flat-backed casing for doors and windows, called architrave in the UK, in primed MDF and finger-jointed pine. Pick a common profile or send your own; we cut it to your lengths and load it with the rest of your order.

Flat or L-shaped

Two ways to trim a door

Our door casings with a return leg are L-shaped and wrap the edge of the door frame. Flat casings and architraves have a flat back: they cover the joint between the jamb or lining and the wall, and are fixed with nails or adhesive.

Both come off the same moulding lines. For a laminated core, see D02, our primed LVL flat casing.

Common casing and architrave profiles

US buyers order casing by profile name and size. In the UK, the architrave usually shares its profile with the skirting in the same room. The drawings show common shapes at typical sizes.

How it’s made

See how a flat casing is made

Pick a profile and follow the casing through our line step by step, then take it apart to see the MDF core, the gesso coat and the primer.

Drag to turn it

The 3D view is not available in this browser. The steps below describe the same process.

  1. MDF board is ripped into strips as wide as the casing.

  2. A moulder shapes the face profile and both edges and sands the strip.

  3. A thin gesso coat goes on through a die shaped like the section, over the face and both edges.

  4. The gesso is dried and sanded smooth along the whole length.

  5. A white primer coat finishes the casing. It is ready for the final paint.

Illustration. The sections are common profile types drawn at typical sizes, not a catalogue; every profile is shown at about the same width, and the coats are drawn thicker than they are.

Materials

Primed MDF or finger-jointed pine

Both come primed white, ready for the final paint. Tell us which one your market expects, or order both in the same container.

Primed MDF

Smooth and stable, with no grain to show through the paint. MDF casing gets a gesso coat and a white primer on our coating line.

Finger-jointed pine

Clear pine blocks, cut free of knots and finger-jointed into long lengths, then moulded and primed white. Real wood for paint-grade work.

Your own profile

Send a drawing, a sample or a photo with the main sizes. We make the profile from it and send you a sample to approve before production.

Profile and size–matched to the skirting in the same room

Typical sizes from US and UK trim distributors. We make each profile to your drawing or sample, so treat these as a guide, not as limits.

Base and casing sets: send the skirting, casing and any chair rail profiles together, and we make them as a matching set. Door jambs and door stop can go in the same order.

Ordering

Casing in the same container as the rest of your order

  1. Send the profiles: a drawing, sample or photo for each one, with the material, lengths and quantity.
  2. Approve the sample: we send you a sample, and production starts once you approve it.
  3. Production: the lead time for custom orders is 15–30 days.
  4. Loading: casings and architraves can share a container with skirting, crown, boards and wall panels. The minimum order is one 20ft container, and it is negotiable; the quantity of each profile follows your order.

We cut every profile to the lengths on your order. The quotation gives any tooling or sample cost and the packing.
